Google Verified Calls Increases Answer Rate with Rich Call Data

Google Verified Calls is the latest way to give customers more information about who's calling before they pick up. Quality Voice & Data delivers calls with Rich Call Data enabled today, letting customers on Google's Phone app — the default on most Android phones — see the business name, a logo, and the reason for the call.

How it works

QVD first registers a customer's Caller ID numbers with Google, including verifiable information like the customer's logo and a call description. Every time that customer places an outbound call, QVD's switch makes an API call to Google's Verify servers, and Google sends a notification to the recipient's handset with the business's logo, call reason, and phone number.

Why this matters for answer rates

Android phones make up 42% of the US mobile market, and the vast majority run the Google Phone app. Google's own product guide notes that 87% of customers won't answer a call from a number they don't recognize — a figure that matches our experience closely. Many QVD clients are already seeing Google Verified Calls drive higher answer rates, improve efficiency, and build customer confidence, essentially giving legitimate callers a professional, e-business-card-style way to present themselves.

Two familiar scenarios

Waiting for a callback from a health insurance provider, only to see a bare 8xx number with no other information, most people assume it's a robocaller and decline — only to find an after-hours voicemail later. If that provider used Quality Voice & Data, the caller's name, logo, and reason ("customer service") would have displayed, and the call would very likely have been answered. Similarly, a dentist's office call showing up as "spam likely" often traces back to an electronic health records system with bundled telephony that hasn't paired its Caller ID with a business name, logo, and reason like "appointment confirmation" — something an EHR provider can fix by partnering with a provider like QVD and using elastic SIP telecom service to deliver the Google Verified Calls data.

What it costs

Nothing extra. End users see the rich call data at no charge, and QVD customers who already purchase Caller ID numbers and elastic SIP trunking don't pay anything additional for the feature. Rich Call Data solutions like this one are likely to become standard across all major carriers before long.
